Marble and Granite

Granite is an igneous rock, formed by volcanic action. Unlike lava however, this melted rock never reached the surface and instead slowly cooled and crystallised resulting in a uniform, speckled stone that ranges from dark to light tones. As the hardest building stone with dense grain, Granite comes in Blacks, Browns, Reds, Yellows, Blues, Greens and Creams. Ideal for kitchen tops, island bench tops and bar tops Granite is striking, functional and durable.

Guidelines to Granite:
A worry-free surface, Granite requires minimum protection being durable, stain resistant and easy to care for. Handling heat extremely well, Granite wont chip, crack or scratch under everyday use. Resistant to damage from acids such as vinegar, citrus drinks and sodas, some Granite can be stained if not properly sealed. After sealing, all that needs to be done is regular cleaning with a wet cloth and further sealing every 6 months to a year.

Marble is a metamorphic rock and was once limestone. Over time, the combination of intense heat and pressure caused the limestone to re-crystallise and become Marble. Foreign substances entered the stone during this process creating an infinite variety of colours and veining. As one of the most elegant and luxurious of stones and is ideal for fireplaces, vanity tops and tables.

Methods to Marble:
Marble is easy to maintain using warm water and a soft cloth will clean up most spills on the surface. As a porous stone Marble has a softer, less stain resistant surface than granite and needs to be sealed with a penetrating stone sealer. Especially susceptible to damage from citric acids, alcohols and oils, never use abrasive cleaners, soft scrub products or harsh or acidic chemicals on any marble stone. With proper care its beauty will last for generations.
